Texting

I'm sort of hip. I said SORT OF. I'm not super old yet and can still relate a little to the younger generation. Heck, I even text message my priests every week to let them know the time and place for our activity each week.

Currently my business phone gets charged 15 cents for each text. Incoming or outgoing, it doesn't matter. 15 cents. So this story got me a little perturbed when I learned that phone companies pay VERY little to send those text messages. So little, in fact, that over 99% percent of what they charge you is pure profit in their slimy, grubby little hands.

Either my dumb company needs to negotiate better rates or I'll be cutting back on those blasted texts.

Dummies and Burnt Popcorn

[names have been changed to protect the dummy*]

Popcorn

Microwave popcorn came out when? In the 80's? I know it was around at least as early as 1990, because I was in high school. That was before microwaves came with a "popcorn" button. The instructions were pretty simple and direct. "THIS SIDE UP" was pretty clear.

1. Center bag on turntable.
2. Set power on HIGH for 4 minutes.
3. LISTEN.
4. Stop microwave when popping slows to 1-2 pops per second.
5. Bag is HOT!!!

Pretty simple. Any dummy can do it.

Except Phyllis*. I work with her. She's believes that machines are perfect and remove the necessity of using your brain. She hits the "popcorn" button and walks away and every day we are treated to the smell of burnt popcorn wafting through the office and her complaints about "that stupid microwave."

Stupid microwave?

Ear Plugs

As most my family knows, I keep a serious supply of ear plugs around the house. Mostly for the shooting that I do. But there are some ulterior motives to the ear plugs. Sometimes, when I need a serious nap due to a lack of sleep, I put in the ear plugs and sleep like a baby. However, today I am wearing ear plugs at work...at my desk. If you were to look at the building where I work from the outside, you would never guess that there were 50 desk-jockeys inside. It looks like a MASSIVE warehouse where large sheets of metal and wood might be stored. As well as a 747.

However, the front portion of the building is just office space, which we occupy. The rest of the building is owned by a large bottling company, who shall remain nameless. Today they decided to jackhammer large portions of concrete out of the floor and walls for some remodeling.

The noise GREATLY affects me. I am wearing ear plugs because my cubicle is directly adjacent to a door, which leads directly into that warehouse.

Some days, it's nice to work from home.

Yoose-tuh-bee

Growing up, I was a fan of the BYU Cougars. I rooted, hooted and hollered for them and made fun of Utah fans. You know...normal stuff. Then I married into the Leatherwood clan and was offered tickets to a Utah vs. BYU basketball game. Although everyone around me wore red, I wore something pretty neutral. After all, the game was at BYU's Marriott Center. In our group were the following (all LDS folks): a Stake President, a Bishop, 2 bishopric members, and an Elders Quorum President.

So picture us walking from the parking lot up the street to the Marriott Center when a car full of rowdy BYU fans passes by. Our ears were treated to a string of profanity that, to this day, is still hanging in space over Utah Lake. I was mortified. People from my church spoke like this?!?!? I thought we were only allowed to talk like that when we were in our cars...alone. I jest.

We were seated for the game and it had barely begun and Utah scored a great basket. My group was cheering and I was half-heartedly clapping when, from behind and to my left, a BYU fan started cursing and yelling so hard that he was frothing and spitting at the mouth. "SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!! YOU'RE IN MY HOUSE!!!"

???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Are you fetching kidding me?

And don't even get me started on the cast for Music Man. I wore a Utah shirt to rehearsal one night and I was quite literally attacked by some rabid BYU fans. Many of them were wearing BYU shirts/hats, etc. and nobody was attacking THEM. It's like they go out of their way to treat you like crap, just because you root for Utah.

So my disdain for BYU is not so much a dislike of the teams themselves as much as it is a hatred for BYU fans. They do NOT practice, as far as I can tell, our professed religion once kickoff/tipoff begins. They become possessed.

Sign of the Beast

In these latter-days, the sign of the beast is this: My health insurance company. Hereafter referred to as Dastardly Evil Voodoo Insurance Losers (DEVIL):
Photobucket

They are the most evil, hateful, nasty insurance company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. My company made the mistake of going to DEVIL health care many years back, but quickly switched back to IHC the next year. And, like a dog to it's vomit has returned to DEVIL AGAIN!!! They are a wolf in sheep's clothing. The devil. The Antichrist. Did I mention they were evil?

That's E-Vill. As in the Froo-Its of the Dev-Ill. EEEEE-Vill.

We are thinking of branching out on our own and seeking health care elsewhere. If any of have any bright ideas, we would love to hear about them.

Which Intelligence?

http://www.blogthings.com/whatkindofintelligencedoyouhavequiz/

My results: Your Dominant Intelligence is Interpersonal Intelligence

You shine in your ability to relate to and understand others. Good at seeing others' points of view, you get how people think and feel. You have an uncanny ability to sense true feelings, intentions, and motivations. A natural born leader, you are great at teaching and mediating conflict.

You would make a good counselor, salesperson, politician, or business person.
