In April I did a post about the big earthquake that is destined to hit the Salt Lake Valley any time now. You can read about it here: The Big One I
We used to have earthquake insurance on our home with Allstate (Word, Doug!).
Anyhoo, Allstate cancelled all earthquake coverage nationwide and then "sub-contracted" their earthquake policies to another company. The new company, however, charges a LOT more than Allstate originally charged. Like $200 more per year. YIKES. So we dropped them like a bad habit and went shopping. We finally found an amazing policy with Farm Bureau. Most earthquake insurance has a deductible of 10% the value of the damage incurred by a quake. So if your $300,000 home is leveled by a quake, you will pay $30,000 to have it replaced.
Farm Bureau's deductible, however, is 5% of the damage. Hey, I'd rather come up with $15,000 after a quake than $30,000!!! The premium we pay each year is also pretty low. So if any of you are interested in having this information or the name of my agent, I'd be happy to give it to you. Shoot me an email.
