I am a Mormon...married to Lisa. We have 5 awesome children. I am a gun rights advocate and believe the 'right to keep and bear arms' refers to an INDIVIDUAL right, as affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. I like to hunt big game, although I have only ever killed a single buck deer. I am an actor of sorts and have been in many local plays and musicals.

    Does it Ever End?

Beginning February 1st, we challenged our young men to read the entire Book of Mormon by July 31st. Honestly, it's not a difficult feat, considering these same young men read a 700 page Harry Potter book in less than a week. But you know how it goes...scripture reading is hard for a lot of us. We called this challenge 'YUBABOMDOG'. Why? Lemme 'splain. If the young men could finish their reading in 6 months, their reward would be a weekend water skiing trip to Yuba Lake. Yuba=Yuba Lake; BoM=Book of Mormon; Dog=a strangely abbreviated form of the Duty to God program.

As time passed very few boys out of the 33 young men we have were going to achieve the goal. Some tried to catch up but fell behind quickly and lost all hope. It turned out that only 8 finally qualified for the prize at the end. Which was fine, as you'll see.

As the date of August 1st approached, we were notified that BOTH of the boats we had lined up were out of commission. One guy sold his boat and the other busted his transmission 6 days before we were to leave. So the Yuba reservations went unused.

We gathered the young men together the Sunday before our Super Activity to tell them the bad news. There would be no Yuba. "HOWEVER", we told them, " we have another option that you might like." We told them that, if they approved, we would take them to Seven Peaks water park in Provo all day Friday. Then we'd have a BBQ/Fireside Friday night and follow that up on Saturday morning with some water skiing at Jordanelle Reservoir, courtesy of my boss.

They were SO stoked. And this was the result:

    Some very happy young men!

    Next week: Scout camp.

Something those boys will never forget--and a valuable lesson in self discipline along the way. Good job, leaders!

Which Intelligence?

http://www.blogthings.com/whatkindofintelligencedoyouhavequiz/

My results: Your Dominant Intelligence is Interpersonal Intelligence

You shine in your ability to relate to and understand others. Good at seeing others' points of view, you get how people think and feel. You have an uncanny ability to sense true feelings, intentions, and motivations. A natural born leader, you are great at teaching and mediating conflict.

You would make a good counselor, salesperson, politician, or business person.
