I think 2 years old is a good age to get rid of the binky dependency. For US, that is. If your babies have theirs longer, I really don't care. We judge NOBODY for how they raise their kids cuz every kid is different!
We've adopted a little tradition with all of our babies. Before the age of 2 we'll snip off the end of their binky with some scissors. Then the next week we'll snip off a little more and a little more until it's just a nub of silicone they can't even bite.
Without exception they all look at their binkies and sort of say to themselves, "Meh. Who needs it?!?"
After we snipped off the last little bit or Marshall's bink, he looked at it, said "Broken!" and walked over to the garbage and threw it away.
Woot!

After Jonah was born Allie kept stealing his "fuffers". Because of this, Jonah never became too dependent.
Allie just lost her first tooth this past summer and the Tooth Fairy gave her a gift for her first tooth - a little baby monkey with a binky - I find her sleeping with that darn, miniature, binky in her mouth. Allie will turn 8 in September.
Thank you for not judging!
