I am a Mormon...married to Lisa. We have 5 awesome children. I am a gun rights advocate and believe the 'right to keep and bear arms' refers to an INDIVIDUAL right, as affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. I like to hunt big game, although I have only ever killed a single buck deer. I am an actor of sorts and have been in many local plays and musicals.

"Well Ya Got Trouble, My Friend..."

"...right here, I say trouble right here in River City."

I am starring in a production of the Music Man this Friday and Saturday as that 'spellbinding cymbal salesman' Harold Hill. We have contracted with Music Theater International for 2 nights which will be free-of-charge to the public. "Free of charge" you ask? Well, it's a church production and we really don't want/need the profit, so it's free.We started rehearsing at the first of January. The rehearsals have taken a LOT of time; every Thursday and Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 PM and every Saturday from Noon to 4 PM. This last week of rehearsals has been especially crazy. Last night was our first rehearsal with a full orchestra, lighting, sound engineers, and costumes. It's quite an ordeal. Most of the players are great and have past experience in theater. This production, however, hasn't had the financial support of our larger community theaters. It will be a good production, but hey, we ain't Broadway! These are a few photos taken at rehearsals:

IGNORE THE DATES ON THE PICTURES. THE ACTUAL DATES WERE MARCH 2008.

    Tommy Djilas and Zaneeta Shinn
    Tommy and Zaneeta

Tommy is a returned missionary for the LDS Church and Zaneeta is his true-life love interest (they met and started dating on the set).

    Town Girls

These town girls are great! Lots of fun goofing off!

    Mrs. Paroo

Her Irish accent is hard to beat.

    Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn
    Eulalie Shinn

She is a freaking hoot! We laughed a LOT together on stage and had a great time. If there were ever a seasoned actor, SHE is it!

Ewart Dunlop (husband of the real-life Eulalie)

Jim has a great voice...sort of rough and smooth at the same time. He is the lead for the barbershop quartet and can sing as well as anyone I know.

    Director and Assistant

I thought I was making a big sacrifice, but these guys are the ones who made the play what it is! (along with their wives, of course)

    Charlie Cowell

    Mayor Shinn
    Mayor Shinn

Brian was just released as the President of our Elders Quorum and is now serving by my side in the Young Men’s organization of our LDS ward. He's a perfect Mayor!

    Our Wonderful Rehearsal Pianist, Wendy
    Rehearsal Pianist

This lady seems like she has the most thankless job of the entire cast. She had to be to nearly every rehearsal to play for us, but she was not actually in the orchestra for the show. Weird? Sort of. But she is really good at what she does!

With my wife due to give birth in exactly 14 days from today, this has been a grueling experience. She has had a few complications with her heart and bladder and has patiently stood by while I was off gallivantin' around town. I am also heavily involved in Church responsibilities as the President of the Young Men’s organization of my LDS ward. So, since January I have spent every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and half of my Saturdays at rehearsals. For my beloved, I am VERY grateful. It's a delicate balance that we have kept over the past few months. Being gone more often seems to have altered the behavior of our children somewhat. They have become a little more selfish and a little more combative with each other. I have the utmost respect for single parents (which is what my wife has basically become). But all of that will come to a gradual halt, I am sure, after all of this craziness has ended and I am able to re-join my wife as a parent to our 4.9 children.

Lisa, I love you and am constantly prayerful of your needs and hope you'll forgive having to indulge my sick gravitation to these theatrical performances over the years!I will post another installment of post-production pictures once the play has ended and I have a better collection of photos.

Which Intelligence?

http://www.blogthings.com/whatkindofintelligencedoyouhavequiz/

My results: Your Dominant Intelligence is Interpersonal Intelligence

You shine in your ability to relate to and understand others. Good at seeing others' points of view, you get how people think and feel. You have an uncanny ability to sense true feelings, intentions, and motivations. A natural born leader, you are great at teaching and mediating conflict.

You would make a good counselor, salesperson, politician, or business person.
